Background:
Early arrhythmia recurrences after pulmonary vein (PV) radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are due non-homogenous tissue lesion and therefore 90 day blanking period is recommended. Data are limited on appropriate blanking period after PV cryoballoon ablation.

Objective:
to evaluate the duration of blanking period for PV CBA using loop recorder data.

Method(s):
We conducted a continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring in 100 patients (52 males, Median age 59) with drug resistant paroxysmal (n=89) and persistent (n11) atrial fibrillation (AF) after PV CBA using second generation cryoballoon. The duration of follow up was 12 months with scheduled visits at 3, 6 and 12 months.

Result(s):
Patient’s compliance rate to follow up was 99%. AF relapse in blanking period was observed in 31 patients: in all patients AF recurrence happened before 45-th day. 26 patients from 31 (83,8 %) with earlier arrhythmia recurrence have had AF episodes during entire 12-month follow up (HR 1.86;CI 0.83-4.17).

Conclusion(s):
Early recurrences after PV CBA are associated with ablation procedure failure.
